Gotta share this!! Modesty website...

I recently found this unique website that I had to share! It is called "Modesty Survey" and it is really a useful and interesting place to visit. We girls who are trying to dress modestly already already know that some kinds of clothing, etc, can be immodest and terribly distracting to other men and boys, but have you ever considered other aspects of dressing and acting modestly? For example, wearing nylons or not with skirts, the way you sit, or even putting on lip gloss in front of guys? These things may seem like they wouldn't matter, but according to the men who have taken these surveys, they actually do! Click on the banner below and start reading!

 Here is the sum-up of what these two Christian young men put together and what the main point of their website is:

 The Modesty Survey was not intended to serve as a scientific measurement of what the average man thinks about modesty. In the strictest sense, it isn't a survey, but a discussion between Christian guys and girls who care about modesty. Over 200 Christian girls submitted their questions. In less than twenty days, over 1,600 Christian guys (12 and up) responded. Close to 200,000 separate pieces of data were collected, including 25,000 text responses.

The survey was presented in a traditional five-point Agree/Disagree format. Each participant was presented with 148 positive/negative statements and was given the options to Agree, Strongly Agree, Disagree, Strongly Disagree, or remain Neutral. Each statement was accompanied by an optional text box for additional explanation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some of the responses to some of the questions are pretty amazing, and pretty hilarous, too.
For example:
Is heavy make-up a stumbling block?
  Its like a mask, covering true beauty. It also looks gross close up and I'm afraid to touch it and mess it up, getting her upset and getting it on me.
It could be for some, but personally, I find it to be rather revolting.
Depends on the girl herself, but most guys don't like makeup on girls. Pretty much anything we can tell you are wearing is too much.
Not a stumbling block, but REALLY UGLY!!
Is it distracting when a girl plays with her hair in front of you?
While it may not be really immodest, I don't think girls should constantly be playing with their hair. I mean, do your hair in a washroom or at home, but don't play with it all the time.
Are high-heeled black boots a stumbling block?
I'm actually not sure why, but something just feels "wrong" when I see them, especially on Christian girls/women that I respect.
I actually think girls look much less attractive with those kind of boots on.
High-heeled anything is a stumbling block. It's almost impossible to walk in a modest way with high heels.
Can a modestly-dressed girl still be a stumbling block because of her attitude and behavior?
(This one got almost 100% strong agreement)
Simply put: modesty is more than just clothing.
Actions can speak very loud. A flirt is still just a flirt, it matters not what she wears or says.
 Standing on your head with a dress on isn't exactly modest.
Should girls always wear clothes that show little body definition?
No, you don't have to look like a potato sack. You shouldn't wear skin tight, form squeezing clothes that are two sizes too small, but it's not wrong to wear something that fits your form, complements your features (in a becoming way of course), and modestly flatters the body God gave to you.
 Showing "body definition" is not bad in and of itself. If one was to try not to show any at all she would have to wear a Santa Clause suit or dress like a Muslim complete with head scarf.
 In my opinion, modest dress is done right or wrong. A frumpy outfit like the above is modesty done wrong, and it seems to me that most girls I see alternate between the two extremes. (Immodesty and frumpy modesty.) Why can't they ever hit a balance?
 I think women should dress like women not like men. I think Nancy Leigh DeMoss put it this way, "Tight enough to show you're a women, but loose enough to show you're a lady." I agree!
 [DISCLAIMER -- If you are a person who regularly wears jumpers or loose dresses, the following remarks are in no way criticism toward you. If the motive for your dress has been to follow your conscience, honor your parents, or please your husband, you have done right.] Above disclaimer aside, I'm going to give my brutally honest opinion on this one: I (now single) will never, never allow my wife to wear a jean jumper. This does not mean that girls in jean jumpers are not attractive. Only that jean jumpers aren't. A women's clothing should complement her natural beauty, including her figure, and I think I can present solid Bible evidence for that conviction (Ge. 29:17; SS 8:8-10; Ez. 16:9-14). The purpose of modest clothing is not to mask her feminity (i.e. body definition), but to present it in all purity and holiness.
Sorry, as much as I hate it when people are showing too much, I hate it just as much when people look fat, lazy, unproffesional, and appear like a bag of potatoes. There is a line between immodesty and modesty. But I find it absurd to take modesty to the extreme in that women can't show their skin any sunlight. An example can be that of the Islamic culture of the Middle East. Instead of modesty being an avenue for people (women) to practice holiness and righteousness, it gets turned into a way of oppression. Specifically a way for men to oppress women. Women don't need to resort to wearing burlap sacks that have been starched to look like UPS boxes to maintain modesty. And women can make themselves look beautiful. In fact there are quite a few women in the Bible that I would bet dollars to donuts dressed quite fashionably and modestly. Esther comes to mind. God gave Esther natural beauty, the king thought she was the prettiest thing he had ever seen, and its not like she was flaunting it either. But at the end of the day, it was her golden character that saved her people. I think if we consider what the end goal is, and how each of us are involved in that goal, we will find that our priorities will not be so focused on "how pretty I am", or "how modest I am". Modesty is a natural by product of a proper relationship with God. Or at least it should be.
Hope  you enjoyed this, and make sure to visit the website for more!!!
Our future husbands...
Seeing as I just did a post on young men and the chivalry issue, today I think I will talk about those special men out there somewhere who will be our future husbands, and the importance of preserving ourselves for them.
Many young ladies (myself included) tend to let our minds wander on certain guys we know, wondering if they're "the one". This is a natural thing, so do not blame yourself for it. You never know, one of them very well may be. I know one newly married couple who knew each other since they were kids, and there are many, many cases like this. But there are also many, many cases which aren't like this. :) You don't know where, when or how you will meet your future spouse, but he is out there somewhere. In fact, he is probably wondering where, when, and how he is going to meet you, too. One day you two will meet each other for the first time, or, for some of us, we may realize that his kid we have known for years and years, this boy who's family has always been coming to our house for potlucks, this young man who is now in college but still visits us on his breaks, is the one. Either way, there is something important we need to remember.
Since God is so good, and so wise that sometimes He hides things from us at first, we need to remember that we have absolutely no idea if one guy or another is the one we are destined to marry. We cannot go by the "love at first sight" theory, because that can bring along some serious broken hearts. We must proceed through relationships and courtships with caution, dignity, and reserve. Not until the ring is on your finger, actually, not until you are at the altar, do you know if that man is the one. If we jump to conclusions before we are sure, if we let our imaginations get the better of us and sum up images in our heads of being at this man's side forever, we can really get ourselves into trouble. And yes, I have an example for you that really happened in real life. :)
There was once a girl, who had very, very strong feelings for this certain young man of her acquaintance. She was head over heels for him, in fact, she loved him so much that she was convinced that these feelings for him were a sign from God that he had destined them to be married. However, this man did not entirely love her back. He was cordial, and polite, and kind to her, but he certainly did not share the strong, violent feelings she had for him. Time went on, and he found another young lady who perfectly suited him. He courted her, and eventually asked her to be his forever. The girl was devastated when she heard this news, but she didn't let it depress her. No, she knew that her feelings for this man were sent by God and that she would marry him one day no matter what. I know, you are all thinking, "How absurd!" And it's true, it was absurd, but it gets worse. :)
The day of the wedding arrived. The young man and his fiance were married in a beautiful ceremony amongst flowers, happy families, and beautiful music. When it was over they filed out of the church and stood in the vestibule receiving congratulations from their dear family and friends. Then. The lonely girl of our story, who knew she would marry this man, who knew God had him picked out for her, went up to him and told him, told him to his face, that no matter how happy he is, if he's married or not, one day, he will come to his senses and realize that God wants him to marry her. Then she walked away.
Can you guess if they ever got married? No, they did not. :) Surprising, isn't it? :P
This story shows what can happen to us if we let our emotions take over our thinking. What we think is "love" for some guy, really isn't. It's just a passion. We should not let our hearts be taken by men who may not end up being our husbands. We must preserve our hearts. We must keep them hidden, and guarded, for the day that they can be given completely, in one intact piece, to our future spouse. Throwing our hearts around to a bunch of guys is not wise, it will only spoil the full, complete, beautiful lily of love that we should have preserved to give completely to our future husband. Trust me, he will truly appreciate it when he gets it! He will know that not one piece, not one particle, has been given away to someone undeserving, because his wife was wise, she was careful, and she guarded this gift for him only.
Keeping our hearts of love completely guarded is difficult to do, but with prayer and trust in God, we can succeed in giving our future knights the most precious gift we possess...
Sometimes it's the little things....
". . . When I found the one my heart loves. I held him & would not let him go . . . " ~Song of Songs 3:4
I was looking through my pictures to find one to accompany this verse, when I came upon this one of Mr. Martin from Emma 2009. That Mr. Martin was so innocent, honest, and noble, don't you agree? Who could resist..... :)
By the way, look for another article on keeping one's self pure for your future spouse. I just need to find the time to finish it! :P
Love always!
Introducing.... Period Drama "Mood Music"!
I know, I know, this is like the third post I have done today, but I have time on my hands and the next few days I may not. So there you have it.
Anyways...
Are you in a happy mood? Are you feeling sort of glum? Are you ready to hear something lively, or more sweet and quiet? Whatever your mood, I probably have a playlist for you!
Starting now, I am going to be creating "Period Drama Mood Music" playlists that you can play from my blog. Period dramas have so many different moods in their music, so I am grouping similar songs together to make different playlists for different moods.
So far, I have finished my first one. Here it is....
"Bright and Lively" Music Playlist
It's Mr. Knightley Day!
Yes, m'dears, June 11th is Mr. Knightley Day! So does Miss Woodhouse of Elinor Elizabeth and Emma declare. :) Here are some pictures and praises about us girls' favorite gentleman. :) And yes, Christina, your birthday is on Mr. Knightley Day. (I'm talking to my best friend here, ladies :)
Mr. Knightley is truly a gentleman. He cares about Emma, but does not get possessive about her, which I like. He only wants the best for her. He often times gets quite harsh when correcting her silly behavior, and warns her of the damage that her matchmaking can and will eventually do. I love how she realizes in the end how much she loves him. Goodness, I would! Who couldn't?! Makes me wish there was a Mr. Knightley out there right now that I could marry, but I'm sure one will come along one day... :)
Goodness, I have collected these pictures from so many blogs I can't even remember where I got some of them! I know a few came from Elegance of Fashion, some are just screencaps I got, and one may be from Elinor, Elizabeth and Emma but I am not entirely sure. Please correct me or claim one if you recognize it! :P
Enjoy our hero's special day!
Keep Calm posters!
Alright, I have completed the most popular three. A few tied, so I chose my favorite. I am so sorry this poll has been so short, but I must get these in for the judging! Tell me what you think.....
Thank you all for voting!
There is going to be an Emma themed Keep Calm contest over at Elinor, Elizabeth, and Emma!
Of course I'm entering, you silly! But, I have quite a few ideas and need to narrow them down to the best. So, I have written up my ideas here, and I would encourage you to vote on your top favorite three over in the poll in the sidebar. The winners will be submitted to the contest! Only please hurry, I must have mine in by June 15th! :)
As always,
Music
As I look over the results of the poll I just finished concerning the music on my blog, I have decided to keep the music on auto-play, but put it in the sidebar so you all can access it easily, turn it on or off, and switch songs as you like. Thank you all for voting!
Fun Tags
So there has been this really fun set of tag questions going around lately, and I thought I would participate!!
You must name twelve literary characters, then answer the questions about them.
My twelve characters:
  1. Mr. Rochester
  2. Georgiana Darcy
  3. Mrs. Jennings
  4. Mrs. Elton
  5. Emma Woodhouse
  6. Marianne Dashwood
  7. Mr. Ferrars
  8. Mr. Darcy
  9. Mrs. Bennet
  10. Jo March
  11. Dr. Morgan
  12. Jane Eyre
1. Who would make a better college professor, 6 or 11?
Dear me, Marianne Dashwood or Dr. Morgan? Most certainly Dr. Morgan.... Marianne would probably have the whole class reading Shakespeare sonnets and taking reckless quests down hills in the rain. :)
2. 12 sends 8 out on a mission. What is it? Does it succeed?
Jane Eyre sends Mr. Darcy on a mission.... perhaps he must find out about her unknown uncle. Of course he succeeds, he's MR DARCY!!??!!
3. What is, or what would be, 9’s favorite book?
Mrs. Bennet reading? She seems to fidgety to take the time to even read....
4. Would it make more sense for 2 to swear fealty to 6 or the other way around?
Probably it would make more sense for Georgiana to swear fealty to Marianne.
5. Number 5 is looking for a roommate. Should she room with 4 or 12?
Emma Woodhouse would probably pick Jane Eyre over Mrs. Elton. :) Don't you think? I may be mistaken, you know...
6. 2, 7, and 12 are going out to dinner. Where are they going, and what do they discuss?
Georgiana, Mr. Ferrars, and Jane Eyre are going out for dinner. They are probably going to some beautiful inn somewhere in England. Since they are all from three different books though, I don't know what they could have to discuss in common. :\
7.  3 challenges 10 to a duel. Who wins?
Oh boy, Mrs. Jennings challenges Jo March to a duel. I'll bet Jo wins, she's so strong and quick. Mrs. Jennings would probably stand there after she turned around talking incessantly about how capable she was of winning when.... never mind.
8. If 1 stole 8’s most precious possession, how would s/he get it back?
If Mr. Rochester stole Mr. Darcy's most precious possession (probably Elizabeth, *giggle*), Darcy would most likely challenge Rochester to a sword fight and win. I do see how Elizabeth and Jane are similar though, their personalities are both so very witty and smart. Rochester probably, in one unmentioned part of the book, had to decide between Miss Bennet and Miss Eyre. Obviously, he chose Miss Eyre but there was, as I said, a sword fight for Elizabeth first. :)
Mr. Darcy giving Rochester a steady look that says, "Try that again..."
9. Suggest a story title in which 7 and 12 both attain what they want.
"They Thought They Didn't Have a Chance.... But They Did" :)
10. What kind of plot device would you have to use to get 1 and 4 to work together?
Mr. Rochester and Mrs. Elton have nothing in common, I don't see how they could work together at all, no matter how much thought and scheming they received on my part.
11. If 7 visited you for the weekend, how would it go?
I am, truly, fond of Mr. Ferrars, but to have him over for the weekend..... that's pushing it.
12. If you could command 3 to perform any service or task for you, what would it be?
To shut her mouth. ;)
13. If 2 had to choose sides between 4 or 5, what side would s/he choose?
Georgiana Darcy would most likely chose sides with Emma, not Mrs. Elton.
14. What might 10 shout out while charging into battle?
Now I can DEFINITELY see Jo March going into battle. Perhaps, "For the love of Roderigo!!!"
15. If you had to choose a song to best describe 8, what would it be?
The Pride and Prejudice 1995 main theme?? :)
16. 1, 6, and 12 are having a dim sum at a Chinese Restaurant. There is only one scallion pancake left , and they all reach for it at the same time. Who gets it?
Mr. Rochester, Marianne, and Jane Eyre. Hmmm. Well Mr. Rochester would probably be too amused at the two ladies both reaching at the same time, Jane would probably notice Marianne reaching for it and pull her hand back right away, and Marianne would get it.
17. What would 5 most likely be arrested for?
Emma Woodhouse? Arrested? Well, I must say she did have a habit in meddling in other people's love affairs.... perhaps meddling? If that's even a crime?
18. What is 6’s secret?
Marianne Dashwood's secret is that she wants to marry Willoughby. Or is that a secret?
19. If 11 and 9 were racing to a destination, who would get there first?
Dr. Morgan would definitely get there first. He's younger.
20. If you had to walk home through a bad neighborhood late at night, who would you be more comfortable walking with, 7 or 8?
What a romantic question! Mr. Ferrars or Mr. Darcy, hm...... Mr Darcy most definitely! Can you imagine, walking along some dank, dark alleyway full of shadows and eerie sounds, but on the arm of Mr. Darcy? Perfection..... :)
That's all for now!
